Where's the option with censorhsip toggle? I can't find it.
Log in with itch.io to leave a comment.
Hey dazzlelone! The NSFW Filter should be in bottom left of the Main Menu (title screen) as well as in the options menu by pressing the pen & scroll in bottom right of screen. Check the box for censorship, uncheck for no censor (=
Thanks for playing! -din
Hi there! I've been lurking for a while since I'm really interested in this game, and well, I always play uncensored versions, so I'll be purchasing it. But I wanted to know something first. Will each chapter cost it's own money once released, or is the $9,99 for everything, and the files will be updated when new chapters are ready?
Thank you very much!
Hey Konoi! The $9.99 is for Chapter One only because it contains 10+ hours of gameplay (not including replay-ability) and basically a full game within itself. The final release of Faulty Apprentice will be priced at $19.99+ and I believe you'll be able to put the $9.99 towards the final game release (like credit) but I'm not 100% sure how that works here on itch.io, so please only purchase if you would like to donate towards Faulty Apprentice development.
Thank you for being interested in Faulty Apprentice! -din
Oh I see! It's fine, seems fair - I'll purchase chapter one and see what next when the full game is released! Thank you for the fast answer!
EDIT: oh and also, pleeease tell me Midnight will be a romance option!
Hahhaha Yup! The Black Cat, Midnight has a Romance path thanks to the generous folks on Kickstarter. Good luck, that cat is a feisty one! XD
Thank you for the support! (=
Hey there! Just coming back with a few opinions and questions since I finished a first playthrough of the first chapter!
First of all, the game is really funny and endearing - I can't wait for the rest of the adventure!
And don't get me started on the music and art! This is all so pretty!
I like most of the characters. For some, it doesn't come as a surprise, for others it clearly does! Even if you almost don't interact with her, Midnight is clearly still my favorite though.
Now, I wish the one guard you could romance was the shark instead of the bunny - I adore her too! And shark teeth are basically the sexiest thing ever to me, too haha.
As for things I wanted to ask, well, first. Is there a way to skip minigames? Don't get me wrong, they are fun, but my computer is old and weak and hates Unity. For aesthetical and story purposes I want my character to use sword and shield, but that minigame is almost impossible because of the lag it produces. Up until the spiders it was playable, but the goblin fight by the gates... well, I did it by sheer luck, since the lag was so awful I always had my combo reset, either because it took so long to manage to hit something or for something to appear on screen, or because the delay made me hit a bomb instead of what I was aiming for.
Another question... I'd love an explanation for how the morale stat works, actually. I had trouble understanding it, since well, most interractions I had with characters got it moving, but while the relationship gauge always went up, the morale one sometimes stayed unmoving or even went down, but it was mostly depending on the character. I don't realy know if I was doing something wrong or if it's meant to be depending on how you're playing the apprentice. And is it bad if it goes all the way down? Or can it prevent from getting a romance right?
Almost there, only two left. As far as chapter 1 goes, the game is pretty tame, even the uncensored version. When the full game is out, will it have more explicit content than that, or is what we have seen the full extent of it?
And last question! How deep a relationship with a girl can be when you reach the end of chapter 1? Obviously, not much with one of the girls you meet by the very end, but for someone like Brea for example, whom you know since the very beginning.
Well, that would be it! Lags put aside, it was a very enjoyable experience!
Hey Konoi! Glad you are enjoying your Apprenticeship so far!
Skipping minigames is not a bad idea, thanks for the suggestion!
Morale meter gives you indication of Good/ Evil progress you are making with each character. It can affect Relationship potential and their role in the battle at end of the game. Relationship meter gives you indication on your overall progress getting to know that character.
We are trying to keep the game more ecchi than eroge. Don't get us wrong, we like eroges, but we feel there are enough of them out already. However, there will be slightly more explicit scene for each character if you max Relationship and make a character your girlfriend.
I think max relationship potential for chapter one is 2.5 - 3? You have to Talk to them everyday. Night time opens up at start chapter 2 so you have more opportunities to build Relationship paths later in game.
Thanks for playing Faulty Apprentice and giving such detailed feedback! If you have any more questions let me know (=
Hi Din! You mentioned you aren't sure how things will work on itch.io, is there another sales platform where you can confirm there will be credits? Your website recommends GameJolt, but they only have the old Chapter 1 build. I see that Gumroad has a $10 knights version that says chapter 2, and a $25 version that says chapter 3, but their descriptions don't have a lot of info. They actually say NOT to buy that product and go to Patreon instead. But I can't afford to keep paying the same amount on Patreon every month indefinitely. =(
If I buy that chapter 3 version for $25, does it also include chapters 1 and 2?
And will that gumroad version continue getting support and updates in the future?
And will I be able to apply some of that purchase as a credit to the eventual final release, like you mentioned above?
Hey UnreliableNarrator! DO NOT BUY ON GUMROAD. That is how we distribute updates to our Patrons, so you will NOT be getting the complete game, credit, or future updates, only the current development build for that week. Sadly, I do not have a sales platform I can 100% guarantee credit.
We will be announcing a release date for Faulty Apprentice soon, so if you do not wish to donate towards development, your best bet is to play the Free Chapter One Demo and wait for final release.
Thank you for being interested in Faulty Apprentice! If you have any more questions, let me know. -din
Salu, stalking the webs for years on end for free mature indie stuff as the dutch free loader I am. Just wanted to say your the first developer that made me fork out money for chapter 1 after the demo in about 10-15 minutes in.
Guess there is a cherry popping for everything.
Gonna dig my teeth in the NSFW version and see where it goes, but from what i've seen I can but only expect the good stuff! Great art, funny and interesting characters and interesting story lines to but wonder where it might go.
Keep up the good work.
Hahahhaha dank je for the comment and donation, Xeerz! We are happy to hear you are enjoying Faulty Apprentice chapter one and are looking forward to seeing where the story goes. (=
I promise it will have a happier ending than Berserk XD (Berserk is seriously one of my favorite stories though. I have the old anime and new movies, but haven't read the manga yet.)
We'll have more updates coming soon! Feel free to join our discord chat if you are interested as well =D
Thank you for playing, Xeerz!
After purchasing chapter 1 and playing through it thoroughly, I have to admit, I can't wait for the full game's release. I'm absolutely in love with the gameplay, the story-line, the quests, the characters, and pretty much everything. Thank you so much, AGL Studios, for bringing such an incredible game to life.
Now excuse me while I replay the game again and again while I wait patiently for the full release. Much love!
Hey OverBerserk! Thank you so much for leaving such a lovely comment!! Your positive words inspire us to keep working hard. We want to make games for folks like you! Thanks for playing and look forward to more! =D
Ps. Is your icon Hana from Prison School? I love that manga and anime!! XD
So here's a question for you guys; My goal is to definitely get to play all of the FA storyline as much as possible. Naturally, sine we only have Chapter 1 here, that's not possible. I know that Chapter 2 is in the works but I am wondering what is the tire I'd need to be to get access to it. It's a bit difficult for me to understand which one is which really, all the tires seem to kind of blend together on descriptions.
I'm also thinking that maybe I just want to preorder the game like some links have taken me to check out but if that's the case, will I get each chapter that comes out or will I need to wait till the games are combined into one full game?
Hello Raxynus! The $10 Knight tier gives you access to Chapter Two development on Patreon. Preorders are for the final game that combines Chapters 1-3, so while preordering is the best deal, it does require patience. Thanks for being interested in Faulty Apprentice! If you have any more questions let me know (= -din
Hi, I messaged about a month ago about accidentally canceling my pre-order. I've been waiting for the refund before re-ordering but it never refunded me. I have the money to re-order it but will I ever get the money I spent back or has it been too long? The original pre-order was about a year ago.
Can you email me your info so I can look up your order? AGLstudioArt@gmail.com
Hello, I sent you an e-mail a month ago but haven't herd back. I just sent another with some information and screen images. I'm trying to see what is happening with a mistake involving a cancellation refund so I can re-order, please get back to me as soon as you can.
Alright, I found an issue with the downlaod ever sense the new Valentines update. I don't know why but the games files are switched. As in, when I try to download the mac version, it treis to download the window version instead. Even the titles show which one is witch but the lable for what kid of files they are are swtiched. This was messing with my itch launcher saddly and made it think that the game was downlaoding fine until I tried to launch it.
Love the game, guys, just wanted to let you know!
You're right! Thanks for letting us know. Fixed!
Sorry about that =P
No worries! Glad I could help in my little way!
The smaller, other things that I've noticed is that the game doesn't load anything between the castle anymore for me. It's just a black space. This could be based on the laptop I'm playing it on, but it's nothing that will break the game.
I did just finish chapter one, and I loved it! I'm going to replay it to see if I can accomplish the commander's task in the first week or not. But I did notice that, when you are doing rounds, the game lets you exit the area with the dark elf. Honestly, it would be better if it didn't let you do it because it didn't make sense that I was able to leave and then just be told to see all the guards (which I had done).
The end credits have the patrons at the bronze level cut off as well.
Last, I would love to know the quickest way where I can get the rest of the game!
Hey Raxynus! Thanks for the additional reports. Very helpful!
Quickest way you can get rest of Faulty Apprentice is by helping us finish it faster! Commenting like you have done, giving positive rating and talking about the game to other people. The more awareness we can bring to Faulty Apprentice, the more funding we can generate to hire more team members. Since we are currently small team of three, getting more hands onboard will make the most impact!
Cheers and thanks for playing Raxynus! If you use discord feel free to join the AGL server too (=
Hi! I'm trying to get this right so bear with me. So I assume this is the same chapter 1 release overall, only we get the full experience through the art and dialogue and mechanics without the censors and such?
Awesome! And I saw another person's comment on the sfw release talking about "creepy" or "trashy" import games designed in Japan, Korea and China, going on about how "bad" or lowbar certain gameplay elements are while talking bitterly about other fans who enjoy it. I don't imagine you get many people coming at the game from that angle so don't take this the wrong way, but do you see yourself removing any existing features from this in the future or from the full game's eventual title release? Edit (answered some of my own questions!) :Also I was intending to get the I believe $20 game on preorder. I'm just wondering how that all comes together in terms of support for you and when this will all get churned out. Will it be like a greater Chapter 2/Final Chapter thing or include both maybe? I don't mean to prod if you haven't finalized plans yet!
I will not sacrifice my Faulty Apprentice vision for anything other than budget restrictions. So rest assured touching will stay (=
Final release copy will include Chapter One and all subsequent chapters. Preordering is lowest price for the full release and gives you access to bonus rewards, but will not give you access to Ch1 NSFW version.
Purchasing Ch1 NSFW here on itch will give you access now and allow you to put the $10 you spend now towards the full game purchase at the time of release (to be announced).
Final price may vary, so both options have their merits. Hope that answers your questions, but if you have anymore let me know! =D
Cool! I appreciate and admire that drive and dedication, no matter to how silly the topic may seem. After all, it's gotta be one way or the other. Regardless of how the game turns out or even if you do decide to cut anything, I'll support you every step of the way. I can totally and confidently get behind a dev with as strong, honest and unflinching a compass as you! Already preordered the full game! I'm excited and interested in what your vision brings!
edit: Is there an option to pay the 10 for this and pay the full price in addition for the full game or is it kindof built in that we have to put this 10 towards the final product? edit: Never mind, I've got it all taken care of. Put an extra 5 towards this Ch1 purchase and was able to preorder the full game at full price as well!
edit: I'm having slight issues with the survey to confirm the purchase. I answered all questions but it wont let me passed, saying all questions must be answered. If it helps though, my responses were 1.) I just googled for games I would enjoy and found yours. 2.) All of the above. 3.) I'm partial towards FA, but look forward to whatever you guys come up with next.
Hey PWWI! Wow! Thank you for the ambush of support!! I went ahead and confirmed your pre-order was successful. We'll get in touch with you again at time of release to doublecheck everything anyways, so rest assured that ending survey issue won't stop us from getting you your copy! (=
Cheers and glad you are enjoying Faulty Apprentice so far! -din
Hello, I pre-ordered what I thought was the full game about a year ago (320 days) but looking at it again it says Chapter 1, did I mess up somehow or did something change? I would like the full game, is there a way for me to pay the $14.99 difference ? I think it was tagged "Pay what you want" or something similar, it's been a while, is it being released in stages? What should I do?
It even says 'You own this game.' at the top of this page.
Hey Rainbow! You should be able to pay the remaining difference for additional content on itchio games at any time. Future installments and in-game Events will be Patreon exclusive until final release. Chapter One will be replacing the outdated Demo, so depending how much you previously donated, you will have access to the uncensored Chapter One when we release tomorrow!
Thanks so much for being interested in Faulty Apprentice! If you have anymore question let me know =D
Hello again, sorry to be such a bother. Thank you for your reply but I tried searching itchio games for the full version and it only has chapter 1. The only way for me to pre-order the full is through the backer kit for $19.99. I'm not sure how this all really works because this is the first game I've ever done this sort of thing with, (because I love your work so much), would it be possible for me buy the full version and have you reimburse me the $5 I already spent? Again, sorry for the trouble.
We are only releasing Chapter One now, the full game release is still a ways away and date will be announced later this year. Itchio saves the credit you have already spent and will allow you to pay the difference at the time of release. When chapter one is up hopefully that will make the process more clear for you, but either way we'll get you sorted out eventually (=
Hmm, I wonder if Apprentice will be able to date Princess too? Since last time when I was able to play this game, I remember that Apprentice was only able to build relationships with his instructors.
P.S- For some reason, early this morning I develop weird feeling, to ship Princess and Apprentice. I'm not sure I just feel like there look like, they are may be a canon couple. Sorry for bothering you, and thank you guys again!
In case you need any help about the story it has occurred to me that the apprentice has a great hidden power and his power source comes from the magic red stone. For example, when the apprentice is near the rock, it begins to shine. It is only my opinion but to do what you want is your project :D
Sorry, I still can't pass the green button so I can't tell.
@svolozhanin7 Have you tried the Training Demo we just released? That is made with completely new engine so should work for you. Cheers! -din
What date do you think you will finish this great game?
I love this demo because it is what I was looking for. A game to interact to improve your skills, talk with your instructors etc. I hope they know the whole game because it is very good. Keep going !
Is there any possibility of a female apprentice at some later date? So far I've seen little enough of the apprentice that it's not a big deal, but I would prefer a female character option.
Hey Zephy! Not planning to add that feature, no. Thanks for giving Faulty Apprentice a chance either way! -Din
God damit... I try to run this game like 5 times and every time my menu screen is stops and not moving. ;(
Yea thats not cool, and shouldn't be happening. Are you playing Mac or Windows version? And can you take a SS for me where its freezing? If you can email me at AGLstudioArt@gmail.com I can give you some quick one on one help.
Thanks for giving FA a chance! -din
Sorry, for a long answer. I'm playing on Windows and here is a screen shot while game is freeze. I will try to send a email to you guys soon enough. Thank you for your help! :)
From what I played on the demo, it looked good. An unexpected adventure coming from an odd encounter with a wizard, becoming a new experience to a simple civilian. That civilian can improve his abilities and be useful on what is at hand at that moment, a strong battle is at few days to come, beauties on the horizon, and decitions on our hand to handle the MC.
I wish all the success to this project you guys have at hand.
Yes! You totally get what we are going for. Even a simple farm boy can become a hero if he works hard! Thank you for the kind words of support (=
I'm looking forward to trying this! Do you guys have any plans of making a version with male love interests? Thanks
Cheers! There might be one or two in the full game, you never know where traps are hiding XD
Love the art style and variety of styles with the women. I absolutely dislike when developers create their female characters from the same cookie cutter designs (ie. Same body structure and features with only different faces.) It is appreciated when an artist takes the time to give personality through body features such as piercings or pubic hair preferences for each character. Its honestly one of the things that will cause me to support a game and its developers monetarily.
Hey Soyak! You are too kind XD I love designing characters and had a lot of fun designing the ones for Faulty Apprentice, so very happy to hear they are appreciated! =D
played for an hour or 2 and im liking it lol wish the mage wasnt such a werido xD
Hey HawkLord! Haha once you finally catch her, she'll be nicer XD
Glad you are enjoying Faulty Apprentice so far! To answer your questions, we originally planned for $9.99, but due to the overwhelming response on Kickstarter, we have expanded the scope and will be adding more content. Should have a price narrowed down when we are closer to completion (in about 5months)
Cheers and thanks for playing!! -din
Just bought the demo so will i have to pay more for the full game later on?? And if so how much will the full game cost me?
wait so the demo is 5.00??
Hello, I just bought the game yesterday and I am excited to play the full game.
Quick question, is there a way to make the game go full screen or make the window bigger.
Thank you for your time.
Hey glad you are enjoying Faulty Apprentice! The demo currently does not support full screen, but we will have that feature in the full game. Thanks for playing! -din
Any plans for a Linux version ?
Upon full game release, yes. Thanks for being interested in Faulty Apprentice! -din
Some feedback: 1) the game is AMAZING! 2) The game is unable to be launched from the itch.io app. Clicking the "launch" button results in a "cannot run package" dialog that comes up. It does run ok when you click on the .exe from the right directory. I suggest you move to Electron as your app runner. 3) After saving a game I come back and choose "load" which just results in a blank page (the background image is there, but no text). 4) I was able to get the game to load by hitting enter a few times.
5) going to the sword training the game got stuck in the multiple target phase.
Super excited about this game - just thought I'd send you some feedback.
Hey triptych! We haven't explored the itchio app yet, but thank you for letting me know our software is not compatible. I'll be sure to look into that and the Electron app you recommended. There are a couple ticks with the software we are using, the load just takes and extra click to progress (for some reason). The sword training pushes the software really hard, but usually works as long as you don't click and drag the strikezone. Will look into it either way. Glad you are enjoying the game overall!! Hopefully our next build will help with some of those issues you are having. Cheers and thank you for playing! (=
Hi I understand you are using TyranoBuilder - it's probably something they need to do, potentially. I posted a comment on the steam support forum for tyranobuilder about it.
However if there is an HTML out version of your game you can wrap it in Electron very easily: http://electron.atom.io/ (main site ) http://tutorialzine.com/2015/12/creating-your-first-desktop-app-with-html-js-and-electron/ (note that article is like 2 years old so it's way faster and more advanced now. Clients like Slack use electron to wrap their HTML app.)
Hey, thanks for reporting! I'm looking into it :)
Which version of itch were you seeing issues with? I'm able to install & run it fine, both with and without the itch.io sandbox.
I went to the tab with the game. Here's a screenshot:
After I clicked the "launch" button, I got a Node WebKit window for a moment, then this error window shows up:
So Node Webkit is trying to load the game, but it for some reason is showing this error. I'm guessing it's because the exe is getting run, but the folder context is lost somehow and cannot run the game. This is in Windows 10.
Ah, I get it now! I was trying to run the *other* Faulty Apprentice.
I'm able to reproduce the issue. Here's what I can gather so far:
- The bug only happens on *first* start-up (subsequent starts work fine)
- On first startup, the game logs contain an error (not being able to initialize the web db)
- The directory where the game is launched is definitely correct (the itch app handles that correctly) - but I suspect the TMP/TEMP environment variables might be the problem.
This is a really cool and fun little RPG/Dating Sim. The visuals are colorful and pretty to look at, the music is nice listen too, and the games story is rather intriguing. I love visual novels and own a ton of them through steam, especially ones that allow you to pursue romance arks. Yeah I'm a dork ^_^ but I love playing them. But most of them are usually a still image and just text. It's nice to see one that has animation with its characters and have RPG elements with a small amount of combat. A fun and good to see take on a VN concept and I can't wait to check out the full release once it is done. I did a video on my experience with the demo if anyone is interested.
A SMART WIZARD INDEED | Faulty Apprentice [Demo]
Hey thanks for sharing the awesome video! I am glad the effort we put into making our visual novel games go above and beyond still images with text is appreciated! Thanks for pointing out the spelling errors too, I am terrible with spelling so thats totally my fault XD. Will definitely be fixing them for the next build though! Thanks for playing Maineiacs! (=
is this the full working demo? I played this a while back but it was still at an early stage?
Hey Fellow! The version in your video was an alpha build, so this one is a lot more developed and designed for (All ages). So you wont see any "rude" imagery. The prologue is still the same though, so feel free to skip that if you replay.
Thanks for still being interested in the game! We are working hard on the full version (=
